Why is tutoring valuable?

One-on-one tutoring allows for a more personalised and, therefore, more effective learning experience when compared to a classroom environment.
We take the time to get to know our students well - their current level of ability, particular weaknesses and strengths, motivation (or lack thereof!), general interests, study habits, etc. and we use this to create a tailored and valuable plan of study for the student. Our tutors will always be working to create a welcoming, patient and enjoyable atmosphere for their students, even if the student despises the subject.

In general, our tutors will be focused on keeping their students up to speed in terms of understanding their course and well practised in the technical aspects of solving problems. The way we do this will vary from student to student. Some examples of how sessions are personalised are below.
We remove obstacles preventing students from learning.
Many students we work with are initially not enjoying the subject in question, due to a variety of reasons, such as:
a lack of general interest
a lack of motivation to study
no desire for a mathematics-related future career
difficulty in understanding the content
shock due to recently changing schools,
and many other possible reasons
No matter the reason, we will find a way to connect with and inspire our students to overcome any obstacles in reaching their maximum potential.
Whether it's finding a way to link a student's interest to the content covered in their course, or helping them to realise the general power of mathematics and scientific knowledge, or simply helping them to understand the importance of always applying full effort to any task they undertake - we will find a way to inspire success and support our students in their own personal journey.
We identify and fill gaps in knowledge or understanding.
Most students have gaps in their knowledge of topics from previous years. We take the time to ensure we identify all such gaps and work backwards (when necessary) to remedy them via a process of discussion/demonstration/repetition.
Improving at maths and science requires solid foundations to build upon, so identifying and fixing gaps from previous years is important.
We guide high-achieving students to excel further.
Sometimes, our students are already confident, highly motivated and achieving solid results when we meet them but are looking to move up to the next level. We focus on identifying weaker areas and improving upon them whilst encouraging our students to practice in their own time as much as possible and provide a huge amount of resources to do so, including past papers. In rare cases with high-achieving and motivated students, we will suggest taking them into higher-level content.
Our goal is for our students to be approaching their final exams feeling strong, confident, and calm - like it's a walk in the park - and our tutors know how to make that happen.
